Updates:
The (2008) Schedule: Each evening features a variety of contra dances with a selection of other forms, a pair of waltzes, and a hambo. Most workshop sessions will provide more contra enjoyment, with opportunities to hone dance skills, and music by our featured bands. Look for couples dance, music, or song sessions interspersed through the weekend to provide a change of pace.
For those who can stay later or who cannot attend the weekend itself, there will be a Sunday evening dance (separate admission, same venue, most or all of the talent from the weekend).
Facilities:
Contra dance sessions takes place in Gatton Hall
at the First United Congregational Church,
4515 SW West Hills Road in Corvallis.
(This is the same site as last year's event.)
This hall has a nice wood floor, recently refinished,
so it is important to wear very clean, soft-soled shoes for dancing.
There may be dancing or other activities at another venue Sunday morning.
NOTE: This is a fragrance-free event. Please do not use cologne, perfume, or scented deodorants, soaps or other grooming products. We will provide scent-free hand soap at the dance venues.
Registration:
Register after November 3rd by completing the
online application form
or by printing, filling out, and mailing the
paper flier.
Whether you register online or by sending the form,
you must also send full payment.
$65 general public,
$60 for members of the Corvallis Folklore Society.
Special $15.00 discount for dancers 25 and under
on the first day of the dance.
If we receive more registration forms
submitted or postmarked by December 11th than will fill the camp,
we will draw lots from those applications.
Lottery results will be sent by January 8th. We prefer to use email
for most communication. If you give us an email address when you
register and do not hear from us by January 10th, please double check
your spam folder, then check with us at
cfs.dance.weekend@gmail.com.
We will assume you have your
notification unless we hear otherwise from you!
(Late applicants: You will be added to the waiting list, and your checks held until you are accepted.) If you register by the lottery deadline, were on last year's waiting list, and were not offered a space, you are guaranteed acceptance at this year's camp. We will "gender balance" the camp within a small percentage.
Cancellation: Admission cost refunded less $10 if canceled by January 31st. After that date, the full fee may be retained. We will attempt to fill vacancies from our waiting list, and issue refunds at our discretion. Please do not find your own replacement or bring illness to share with other dancers. Let us know if that is the reason for your cancellation.
Housing: We will arrange home hospitality with area dancers on a first-come, first-served basis. For a comprehensive listing of Corvallis hotels, motels, and campgrounds, visit The Corvallis visitors' bureau lodging website.
Food, Meals: We will provide a comprehensive guide to Corvallis restaurants with your registration confirmation. You may wish to bring something to sustain your stamina through the long evenings of vigorous dancing.
