General information
The Corvallis Folklore Society (CFS) is
a tax-exempt non-profit membership organization.
The objectives of the CFS shall be: (from the By-Laws...)
- To preserve, promote, and encourage the performance of traditional music, dance, arts, and other forms of folklore.
- To encourage and support the local folk community through
education, outreach, and opportunities for participation and
performance.
- To cooperate with other organizations, agencies, and individuals of similar interests in the community and state.
At this time,
the primary events organized by CFS revolve around music and dance.

for a listing of all CFS events
(and some others of interest to CFS members).
CFS members pay discounted admission prices to CFS concerts and dances.

The
CFS Concert series
features regional, national, and international talent
in a variety of locations around Corvallis.
These concerts are scheduled irregularly, as performers come to town.

The
Best Cellar Coffeehouse
- A monthly music series (usually 4th Fridays),
featuring area and regional performers,
held in the cellar of the First United Methodist Church,
1165 NW Monroe Avenue.
Admission is on a sliding scale of $4 to $10,
with coffee, juice, teas, and sweets available at a nominal charge.

The
Local Folk
concert series,
a co-production with ArtCentric,
usually third Thursdays in February, April, and June.

House concerts
- Smaller, more "intimate" venues, featuring area and travelling musicians,
scheduled irregularly, as performers come to town.

Song Circle
- "Share a song, lead a song, or listen as we go round the circle."

Join CFS members at our annual
Silver Falls
Retreat Weekend
for singing, jamming, hiking, and a little dancing
(usually early October,
held in beautiful
Silver Falls State Park).

Contra dances
- Participatory dances, featuring live music and a caller,
usually first and third Saturdays each month, September to June.

The
Corvallis Contra Dance Weekend
- An entire weekend of dancing and workshops, held in February each year
You can get involved with CFS in several ways:

Produce, publicize, or sell tickets for
a concert with an upcoming performer

Perform as a musician or singer
at a Best Cellar, Local Folk, or House Concert

Join in the fun at the Song Circle

Perform as a musician or caller at one of our contra dances

Enter our
annual high school musicians' contest

Help compile our Calendar of events,
write articles/reviews,
or otherwise work on the newsletter

Join us for our regular board meetings,
usually third Sundays of odd months except July.
